Mitsubishi Teases Two New Models for the European Market
Silhouettes Hint at Renault DNA
Mitsubishi is set to expand its SUV lineup in Europe in partnership with Renault. Leveraging its strategic alliance with Renault, Mitsubishi has gained a stronger foothold in the region by sharing vehicle platforms and utilizing badge engineering. Recently, Mitsubishi released teaser images of two upcoming compact SUVs, showcasing a silhouette many have noted that resembles Renault’s current models. The teaser reveals a striking daytime running light design and the iconic Fuji Mountain logo, leaving fans speculating about what’s to come.
Similarities to Renault’s Symbioz and Scenic
Hybrid and Electric Variants on the Horizon?
The two new SUVs, likely to be produced by Renault, are expected to include both electric and hybrid/internal combustion engine variants. These vehicles are speculated to be based on Renault’s Symbioz and Scenic, aligning with Mitsubishi’s strategy to tap into Europe’s growing demand for compact SUVs. The model resembling the Symbioz is anticipated to offer gasoline and hybrid powertrains, built on Renault’s CMF-B platform and measuring around 4,413 mm (173.7 inches) in length.
Expected Performance and Design Changes
Mitsubishi’s second SUV, a sibling to the Renault Scenic, was first announced in December 2023 as Mitsubishi’s first fully electric vehicle since the i-MiEV in 2010. It shares the same CMF-EV architecture as other electric vehicles from the Renault-Nissan alliance, including the Megane E-Tech, Nissan Ariya, and Alpine A390. While the design will bear similarities to the Scenic, expect some unique Mitsubishi styling cues, particularly in the front LED light design.
Performance details remain under wraps, but the electric version is expected to offer 170 horsepower for a single motor configuration and up to 218 horsepower with a dual motor setup. The battery options could include 60 and 87-kWh packs, offering competitive range and power for the compact electric SUV segment.
Launch Set for 2025 with Advanced Features
Mitsubishi has confirmed that both SUVs will be equipped with the latest Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Google’s built-in infotainment system, modeled after Renault’s OpenR interface. The launch of these SUVs is slated for 2025, targeting the European market first and possibly introducing them in Japan later. With these additions, Mitsubishi aims to complete its SUV lineup in Europe and continue its push in the competitive compact SUV space.
As Mitsubishi continues integrating Renault’s cutting-edge technology and platforms into its offerings, these two new SUVs are expected to solidify its position in Europe’s growing electric and hybrid vehicle market. Enthusiasts are now eagerly awaiting further details and the official unveiling.
