Jaguar, the iconic British automaker known for its rich history and heritage, has struggled to keep up with the rapidly evolving automotive market. In response, the company is charting a bold new course, focusing on full electrification and committing to producing only luxury vehicles moving forward.

In this new era for Jaguar, a vehicle has emerged that could hint at what the brand’s future might look like—the C-X75 hypercar. While not officially relaunched by Jaguar, the C-X75 represents a pivotal point in the company’s design and technological direction.

The C-X75’s Comeback: Upgraded for 2024

Originally unveiled as a concept car at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, the C-X75 was envisioned as the successor to Jaguar’s legendary XJ220 supercar. It boasted a cutting-edge hybrid powertrain and Jaguar’s signature sleek design. Although the car generated excitement, the global economic downturn derailed its production, and mass production plans were canceled.

However, Jaguar fans saw the C-X75 when it was featured as a stunt car in the James Bond film Spectre. Now, in 2024, the hypercar has returned, this time as a fully upgraded luxury vehicle, thanks to Ian Callum, the designer who was involved in the original project.

From Stunt Car to Luxurious Hypercar

The revamped C-X75 retains the heart of its original design, including its powerful 5.0-liter V8 supercharged engine. The car has been reimagined as a rear-wheel drive hypercar, now paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission for enhanced performance. New software and electronic systems have been integrated, making the car as capable on daily roads as on the track. A hydraulic front lift system has been added to protect the vehicle’s lower section from damage, making it more practical for everyday driving.

The interior has also undergone a dramatic transformation. Gone is the utilitarian stunt car feel, replaced with luxurious touches that befit Jaguar’s new focus. The dashboard, center console, and controls have all been redesigned, and the bucket seats and steering wheel are new. The cabin now features dark green and cream-toned leather, evoking Jaguar’s signature style and elegance.

1,000 Hours of Craftsmanship: A Glimpse of Jaguar’s Future

Jaguar has equipped the C-X75 with modern amenities like Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, and a customizable sound system, ensuring it delivers both performance and comfort. Remarkably, over 1,000 hours of meticulous craftsmanship brought the C-X75 back to life, but the total cost of these upgrades remains undisclosed.

Only four C-X75 concept cars were initially built; as of now, just two have been restored. Whether the remaining two models will be revived is still uncertain, but there’s growing speculation that the C-X75 could provide a blueprint for Jaguar’s future electric supercars. As Jaguar embarks on its journey toward full electrification and luxury-focused design, the C-X75 offers a compelling look at what may lie ahead for the brand.
