Renault Unveils Emblème Concept Car at Paris Motor Show
A Hydrogen-Powered Vision for Eco-Friendly Mobility
Renault made a splash at the 2024 Paris Motor Show with the debut of the Emblème, an eco-friendly concept car designed to showcase the future of sustainable automotive technology. This next-generation hydrogen-electric vehicle promises a groundbreaking reduction in carbon emissions, claiming a 90% lower carbon footprint over its life cycle compared to traditional internal combustion vehicles.
In perspective, while Renault’s Captur emits roughly 50 tons of carbon dioxide over its life cycle, the Emblème emits only 5 tons—an impressive one-tenth of that amount. This achievement is mainly due to the use of recycled materials throughout the vehicle’s construction, making it a model for sustainable design.
Built on the Advanced AmpR Mediu Platform
The Emblème is based on Renault’s AmpR Mediu platform, blending elements of crossover, hatchback, and shooting brake designs. A hallmark of its eco-friendly approach is the inclusion of solar panels on the roof, while the interior is crafted from recycled polyester, further reducing its environmental impact.
Renault’s Emblème aligns with the company’s long-term goals of achieving carbon neutrality by 2040 in Europe and by 2050 worldwide. As part of this strategy, Renault is converting its lineup to electric and hydrogen models, and Emblème clearly indicates this commitment.
Spacious, Family-Friendly Design with a Nod to Renault’s 1990s Legacy
With dimensions of 4.8 meters (189.0 inches) in length, 1.52 meters (59.8 inches) in height, and a 2.9-meter (114.1 inches) wheelbase, the Emblème offers ample space, making it a comfortable choice for families. The design is strikingly futuristic yet subtly nostalgic, recalling Renault’s 1990s styling, particularly from the Safrane and Laguna sedans. The front end blends sharp and smooth curves, with modern LED lighting elements enhancing its stylish and elegant look.
Impressive Range and Powertrain Capabilities
Under the hood, the Emblème combines a 217.5-horsepower electric motor with a 40kWh battery. This setup allows for extensive travel on electric power alone, while an additional 2.8 kg (6.2 pounds) hydrogen tank extends the range by 350 km (217 miles). The Emblème can cover up to 1,000 km (621 miles) on a single charge, making it a versatile option for long-distance travel.
The Emblème, which has captured significant attention at the Paris Motor Show, is set for production in 2028. Renault officials have confirmed that the production model will be built on a modular platform with cutting-edge advancements, bringing this futuristic concept closer to reality.
