Chevrolet K5 Blazer Restoration of 1972 Model
Reborn with 525 Horsepower

Ringbrothers, an American old car restoration and repair company, is making headlines by reviving a 1972 Chevrolet K5 Blazer with a powerful 525 horsepower. This model was unveiled at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, US. A carbon fiber body kit has also modernized the performance and exterior.

The K5 Blazer is a large SUV that Chevrolet produced from 1969 until its discontinuation in 1995 with the third generation. The restored version is the first generation Blazer from 1972, and it has been customized while maintaining the original design.

Featuring a Toyota Tacoma chassis
Optimized Off-Road Suspension

The restored 1972 Chevrolet K5 Blazer’s chassis is based on a 2016 Toyota Tacoma frame. This modern foundation is paired with King suspension components, Toyota’s sway bar, and a steering rack originally designed for Tacoma. The sway bar helps connect the suspension components on both sides of the vehicle, reducing body roll during turns. The King suspension system, modified for this restoration, provides exceptional shock absorption, ensuring optimal off-road performance.

For the engine, the Chevrolet LS3 engine is installed. It has become famous for being installed in General Motors’ high-performance models, such as the Corvette C6, Holden Commodore SS, and Camaro. In the case of the 6.2L LS3 V8 engine, it generates a powerful performance of 525 horsepower and 67.3 kgf.m. It is mated to General Motors 4-speed automatic transmission 4L60E. The transmission is combined with the NP208 case.

Retaining Vintage Style with Round Headlamps at the Front

Thanks to the extensive replacement from the chassis to the drivetrain, it still runs like a new car, even though it has been produced for over 50 years. A carbon fiber body kit is applied to the bonnet above the engine, creating a voluminous shape. The aggressive bonnet and the retro design of the front form a contrast. Retro-style round headlights and square boxes are placed in the front.

A grid pattern is applied for the grille that touches the headlamp, and an orange R lettering is placed on top of it. For the front and rear, a sporty orange tow hook is placed. For the side, HRE 18-inch wheels and off-road tires are combined. A panoramic sunroof is applied to the rear top with fiberglass material. For the rear glass, it is taken from the Jeep Wrangler.

Carbon Fiber Accents in the Interior
Taking 3,700 Hours to Complete

The interior of the restored K5 Blazer was redesigned by Gabe’s Custom Interiors, a California-based company specializing in automotive customization. Carbon fiber accents were integrated into the dashboard and steering wheel, while the instrument panel was updated entirely for a more contemporary look. A unique 3D-printed gear knob adds a custom touch to the cabin.

Modern conveniences such as air conditioning and a custom sound system were added to enhance comfort and usability. Despite these upgrades, the interior retains the solid, rugged feel typical of the K5 Blazer, preserving its iconic, utilitarian atmosphere. The restoration took over 3,700 hours, ensuring the vehicle honors its heritage while incorporating modern features and style.
