Toyota Grand Highlander
Lowers Price and Improved Practicality
Since its debut in 2000, Toyota has produced the Highlander, a mid-sized SUV designed with families in mind. The model has evolved through four generations, and to further maximize its interior space, Toyota introduced a long-body version, the Grand Highlander, in 2023. Following the release of the 2024 model, Toyota has now unveiled the 2025 Grand Highlander.
While the 2025 model retains the same design as the original Grand Highlander, a decision likely made because the initial design was already considered complete, Toyota has made substantial updates under the hood. The company has introduced new trims and added convenient features, enhancing the overall driving experience. The 2025 Grand Highlander also sees a price reduction, making it more accessible to a wider range of buyers.
A Luxurious Japanese SUV: Perfect Size for Family Use
The slightly raised headlights, wide air intake, and densely engraved grille are the same. The recessed fog lights are also a must-see. The rear has not changed either. The C-shaped taillights, dual mufflers, and straight-line rear spoiler all give it the sleek and luxurious look of a Japanese SUV. Four-wheel drive is standard for the upper trims, and front-wheel drive or AWD is supported for the lower trims.
In terms of the size of the Grand Highlander, it is 4,950 mm (194.9 inches) in length, 1,930 mm (76.0 inches) in width, and 1,729 mm (68.1 inches) in height. The powertrain has the same 2.4L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine and 8-speed automatic transmission as the 2024 model, generating a maximum output of 265 horsepower and a maximum torque of 41.85 kg.m. With this engine performance, it can tow up to about 2,200 kilograms (4,850 pounds). This is similar to the maximum towing capacity of 3-row SUVs such as Kia’s Telluride and Honda’s Pilot.
New Trims Added: Balancing Value and Luxury
The 2024 Grand Highlander was released only in three trims: XLE, Limited, and Platinum. However, starting with the 2025 model, the Nightshade trim will be added just like the regular Highlander, and the affordable LE trim can also be selected. Even though it is the base trim, it comes with a 12.3-inch infotainment system, tri-zone automatic climate control, and Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 driver assistance features.
For the higher trims, 20-inch wheels, LED daytime running lights, and power-folding side mirrors are provided, while the interior decoration is replaced with animal leather instead of faux leather. Also, ventilation and memory seats are available for the front seats. A heated steering wheel and an 11-speaker JBL premium audio system are added.
Remote Vehicle Management Available: Starting at Approximately $40,860
The Platinum trim offers additional tech features like Toyota’s Traffic Jam Assist, which uses radar and cameras to adjust steering, acceleration, and braking in real time to ease driver fatigue during frequent stop-and-go traffic. The Toyota app also allows for remote vehicle management, such as starting the engine or turning on the headlights.
The 2025 Grand Highlander is expected to hit the market in early January 2025, with the LE trim arriving in the year’s first half. The base LE model costs $48,600, while the newly introduced Nightshade trim starts at $52,610. With its blend of practicality, new features, and a competitive price point, the 2025 Grand Highlander is positioned to become an even stronger contender in the family SUV segment.
