Skoda’s New Kylaq SUV Brings Style and Safety for Less Than $7,000

newautopost Views

Skoda

Skoda, the Czech automaker under the Volkswagen Group, has officially unveiled its new subcompact SUV, the Kylaq, in India. The Kylaq is the third model developed specifically for the Indian market and is designed to tap into the rapidly growing subcompact SUV segment. Notably, the Kylaq is the smallest SUV ever launched by Skoda.

Measuring 3,995 mm (157.3 inches) in length, 1,983 mm (78.1 inches) in width, and 1,619 mm (63.7 inches) in height, the Kylaq is slightly larger than the Hyundai Casper Electric. It features a modern, clean exterior design with split headlamps—LED daytime running lights positioned at the top and LED projector headlamps below. The raised front grille lends a bold and confident look to the SUV.

Modern Solid Design Language
Emphasizes SUV’s Rugged Character

For the overall vehicle design, the SUV’s robust impression was emphasized by applying plastic cladding, aluminum-style skid plates, roof rails, and square wheel arches based on Skoda’s modern solid design language.

On the side, the thick door handles and 17-inch rims are noticeable, and the thick C-pillar adds solidity to the design. What is clearly different from Skoda’s previous model, the Kushaq, is the tail lamp. The lights are small, but the square shape gives a clean feeling. The tailgate at the rear is wide and low to make it easy to load and unload luggage.

It boasts Impressive Safety Features

The Kylaq is equipped with modern technology, including a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen and an 8-inch digital cluster. It supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for seamless connectivity. Higher trims include additional luxuries such as ventilated leather seats, a power sunroof, and automatic climate control.

Built on the AQB A0 IN platform, the Kylaq shares its foundation with the Skoda Kushaq, which has achieved a five-star Global NCAP safety rating. Skoda aims for the same high safety standard as the Kylaq, equipping it with 25 safety features, including six airbags, automatic headlights, and wipers. In higher trims, the number of safety features increases to 35.

Scheduled to be launched in India early next year

Under the hood, the Kylaq features a gasoline-only 1.9-liter TSI three-cylinder engine that generates 113 horsepower and 178 Nm (131 lb-ft) of torque. The engine is paired with either a six-speed manual or an optional automatic transmission. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 10.5 seconds and has a top speed of 188 km/h (117 mph).

The Kylaq will be launched in the Indian market in early 2025 and will compete with models such as the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, and Nissan Magnite. In terms of price, it is expected to compete with incredible cost-effectiveness, starting at around $6,624 in India and less than $7,000.
