Volvo plans to expand its electrified lineup and lead the global electric vehicle (EV) market. It recently released a teaser for the ES90, an electric sedan similar in size to the S90, and has also announced the launch of the EX60, an electric SUV similar in size to the XC60. Among them, the Amazon, Volvo’s first four-door model that represented Volvo in the past, has been reborn as an electric vehicle through rendering.

The Amazon was a model produced by Volvo from 1956 to 1970. In addition to the 4-door sedan, it was released in various derivative models, such as a 2-door sedan and a 5-door wagon, and was a popular model among consumers at the time. This Amazon has become a hot topic as an overseas virtual rendering designer has revived it as a rendering based on the Tesla Model 3 body.

A Modern Take on Volvo’s Design Language

The rendering of the electric Amazon integrates Volvo’s latest EV design language, seen in models like the EX90 and EX30. The front of the vehicle is defined by the signature T-shaped Thor’s Hammer headlights, a hallmark of Volvo’s current electric models. Below the headlights, vertical lamps add a sleek, futuristic touch, while a closed grille in the center further emphasizes the car’s electric identity.

The body panels are sharp and rectangular, with the Volvo logo prominently placed in the center. Despite its minimal design, The bumper has a large trapezoidal air intake, giving the car a sportier feel. The bonnet’s subtle curves flow into a more defined body line, combining smooth surfaces with sharp angles for a modern yet boxy profile.

Sporty and Aerodynamic Proportions

The vehicle’s side reflects aerodynamics’ importance in modern EV design. A flat wheel design helps improve efficiency, while the auto-flush door handles contribute to a sleek, streamlined look. The roofline follows the fastback coupe shape, flowing seamlessly from the A-pillar to the rear trunk, which adds to the vehicle’s sporty character.

Black molding accents along the door line and roofline contrast with the body color, giving the vehicle a sophisticated appearance. At the rear, the rendering features Volvo’s signature ㄷ-shaped tail lamps, commonly found on the Model 3 and other Volvo electric models. Though the tail lamps don’t connect, a black high-gloss band creates a unified look between them. The trunk lid is integrated with a subtle spoiler, enhancing the car’s aerodynamic performance and reinforcing its sporty aesthetic.

Anticipated Launch of the ES90 Electric Sedan in 2025

The Ioniq 6-inspired rendering of the electric Amazon has received mixed reactions from fans. While many praise the modern, sleek proportions that seamlessly blend Volvo’s straight, solid design with the sporty lines of the Model 3, others feel that the design resembles a laptop mouse, drawing criticism for its somewhat unconventional look.

Regardless, the rendering has sparked significant buzz, and all eyes are now on Volvo’s upcoming ES90 electric sedan, which is expected to debut in 2025. As the brand continues to innovate in the electric vehicle space, the Amazon revival offers a glimpse into Volvo’s design direction, blending the old with the new in a nod to the brand’s rich history while embracing a future of electrification.
