Tesla’s Model Y is Tesla’s best-selling model, with 14,623 units sold in South Korea alone from January to October this year. The Tesla Model Y, which achieved this performance, ranked third in sales during the same period, following the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and BMW 5 Series.

Tesla is preparing to launch a Model Y refresh (facelift). Elon Musk has stated that the new Model Y will not be launched this year, but consumers’ expectations are rising as prototypes of the new Model Y have been captured several times recently. In particular, significant changes are expected in the exterior design.

Rendering Reveals New Model Y Lighting Updates

While the detailed design of the new Model Y prototype remains obscured by camouflage, renderings based on visible design elements have offered a clearer picture of what to expect. Among the most notable updates are the strip-shaped daytime running lights positioned along the upper front fascia and horizontal bar-shaped taillights at the rear.

These design elements have been consistently confirmed in earlier leaks and prototype sightings. At the front, the updated lighting setup includes a divided lamp design, with lights placed both above and below the bonnet parting line. The upper section features sleek, strip-style daytime running lights, reminiscent of Hyundai’s seamless horizon lighting, adding a futuristic and minimalist aesthetic to the refreshed Model Y.

Refreshed Model Y: Updated Lighting and Design Features

The current Model Y features round headlamps at the top of the front fascia, but the upcoming refresh is expected to replace them with a more futuristic design. The round headlamps will be removed and relocated to the lower front section, adopting a slimmer, horizontal shape. This change not only enhances the sportiness of the design but also streamlines the overall appearance. The areas previously housing the headlamps will now serve as air intakes, maintaining the familiar design language while integrating new elements.

The updated front bumper is expected to include a larger trapezoidal air intake with a horizontal pattern consistent with the current model. At the rear, horizontal bar-shaped taillights will span the width of the tailgate. While retaining some design cues from the existing Model Y, these updates will modernize the vehicle’s appearance, further aligning it with Tesla’s evolving aesthetic.

Tesla Model Y Refresh: Tail Lamp Updates and Interior Enhancements
Upgraded Cabin and Improved Comfort

The updated Model Y features a fresh take on the rear lighting design. The tail lights form a “C” shape, integrated with a horizontal light bar stretching across the rear hatch. The side sections of the tail lights extend sharply into the rear quarter panels, keeping the sleek, angular styling of the current design intact. In the center of the light bar, “TESLA” is spelled out in bold letters, replacing the traditional T logo with the rear camera positioned just above. The rear reflector and bumper layout remain the same, keeping a familiar look for Tesla fans.

The interior of the refreshed Model Y is set to feel more upscale, with ambient lighting added along the door panels for a premium vibe. A newly designed steering wheel and an upgraded 15.4-inch touchscreen bring a modernized touch to the cabin, while the overall layout remains similar to the current model. These changes focus on enhancing the vehicle’s feel without losing the simplicity for which Tesla is known.

Performance enhancements are also expected. Tesla will likely include a larger battery to extend the driving range and improve ride quality, making the refreshed Model Y an even better all-around option for drivers. With a projected launch in the first half of 2025, the new Model Y is shaping up to meet the demands of the growing EV market while offering familiar Tesla innovations.
