A Honda sedan that is cheaper than the Hyundai Elantra has appeared. Honda unveiled the new Amaze on November 4. The Amaze, first released in 2013, has been reborn into its third generation through a redesigned version. It features Honda’s latest design; driver assistance features a digital cluster and a modernized interior with an 8-inch display.
The new Amaze is priced low to target the Indian market. The local price is only 799,000 rupees (about $9,420). Considering that it is a subcompact sedan, this is a very aggressive price setting, and it is about $4,500 cheaper than Hyundai’s Elantra price of about $13,960. Let’s look at the detailed specifications and appearance of the new Amaze.
Sleek Exterior and Sporty Design Enhancements
First, let’s look at the design changes. A hexagonal shield grille is applied for the front, with even sharper angles than the current model. A honeycomb pattern is applied to the inside of the grille. A thick chrome garnish is applied along the bonnet parting line for the upper part. The sharp shape of the headlamps adds a sporty impression to the front. The bumper is finished with air intake, fog lights, and black trim for the lower part.
On the side, the short body proportions are revealed, as it is a subcompact sedan. To compensate for this, a horizontal character line was applied above the door handle and under the side skirt to make the body look longer. The roof line continues sharply to the rear. The tail lamp at the rear is finished in a smoked style, and it looks like the previous rough form has been neatly trimmed.
Efficient Powertrain and Impressive Tech Features
The powertrain consists of a single 1.2-liter iVTEC gasoline naturally aspirated engine, generating a maximum output of 89 horsepower. You can choose between a 5-speed manual transmission and a CVT automatic transmission. The interior features a modern configuration. A 7-inch digital cluster and an 8-inch display are placed. The overall design, including the steering wheel, incorporates Honda’s latest interior elements.
The interior, which adopts a simple design with a horizontal layout, creates a modern and clean atmosphere. Although it is a compact sedan, it provides a trunk capacity of up to 416 liters. This is 34 liters more than its main competitor, the Suzuki Desire. The interior can accommodate up to 5 people. In terms of body size, it is difficult to expect a spacious interior as it is a subcompact sedan with a length of 3,995 mm (157.3 inches), a width of 1,773 mm (69.8 inches), a height of 1,500 mm (59.1 inches), and a wheelbase of 2,740 mm (107.9 inches). Still, it seems to have secured a certain level of interior livability.
Affordable Yet Technologically Advanced
Despite its low price, Honda’s latest specifications are applied here. For the top ZX trim, the Honda Sensing ADAS driver assistance system is applied, and it is equipped with Level 2 autonomous driving technology such as adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, keeping assist, emergency braking, etc. Even though it is the top trim, it is the cheapest model sold in India with ADAS features.
Here, the 6-airbag system, 3-point seat belt, 2-row air duct, and interior automatic temperature control system are standard specifications, while options such as driver’s power seat, 1st-row ventilated seat, and sunroof are configured. The new Amaze is scheduled to be launched in the Indian market in January 2025 and consists of three trims: V, VX, and ZX.
