It adds functions such as a digital phone key for Apple Watch, Sentry Mode secure video access via phone, rear cross-traffic alert safety additions, and Santa Mode for Cybertruck. This update is scheduled to be distributed sequentially via OTA (Over The Air) starting next week, and the newly updated functions are expected to enhance the safety and convenience of Tesla vehicles significantly.
1. Rear Cross-Traffic Alert System
One of the most anticipated additions is the Rear Cross-Traffic Alert system, which automatically detects approaching vehicles or objects when backing out of parking spaces. This feature, already standard in many other cars, was notably absent in previous Tesla models, making it a major improvement.
2. Apple Watch Tesla App
Another major update is the Tesla app for Apple Watch, which now includes a digital key function. This feature allows owners to lock and unlock their cars, check the battery level, and pre-heat their vehicles remotely—all from their Apple Watch. It’s a convenient option for those who leave their phone or wallet behind but still need to operate their Tesla.
3. Holiday Features and Fun Additions
As expected for a holiday update, Tesla is bringing back the Tesla Light Show, which synchronizes the vehicle’s lights and sounds for a festive display. Two new shows have been added this year. Additionally, the Cybertruck gets a special Santa Mode, which turns the 3D avatar into a Tesla bot riding a Cyber-sleigh. Cybertruck’s infotainment system also has a fresh look with new wrap and license plate designs.
4. New In-Car Features
There are also new fun features such as “Fart On Contact,” which plays fart sounds when a passenger sits down. For the Model 3, a new automatic shifting feature is being introduced, which can predict when to shift between drive and reverse, improving the overall driving experience.
5. Improved Media and Entertainment
Tesla has partnered with SiriusXM to offer a free one-month trial of their audio service. Additionally, Bluetooth functionality has been added to the app, allowing for offline use in areas with poor internet connection. It is easier to lock/unlock the car and control the air conditioning in rural or mountainous regions where connectivity might be an issue.
6. Battery Reservation for Non-Charging Destinations
The update also introduces a new “destination reserve” feature, which allows drivers to reserve a portion of their battery for the return journey. This feature is particularly useful when traveling to locations where charging stations may not be available.
