China has recently made a massive offensive in the automobile market. In China, the government has been providing large-scale support for the development of electric vehicles. As a result, electric vehicle models that are pretty inexpensive for their class are being released. In the case of top brands such as BYD, the driving range, performance, and quality are also better than expected. In addition, they are building their own performance in the global market beyond China’s domestic market.
Recently, a new model of the 11 has been released by a brand called Avatr, which is gaining attention. Avatar may be unfamiliar to you. It is an electric vehicle brand jointly created by China’s Changan Automobile, Huawei, and CATL. The new model 11 they released is known to be a model that added a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) to the existing electric vehicle model, and the driving range is said to be a whopping 1,065 km (662 miles).
Sleek Design and Luxury Features
The 11 is the first model of the Avatr. It is an electric vehicle launched in 2021 and began sales in 2022. Nader Fazizadeh, a former BMW designer, designed it, and Polyak Nicolas and Guille Pedro Giuffetto also participated in the design. The exterior is a coupe-type SUV that elegantly uses curves, similar to the later Polestar 4.
The interior is designed simply, following the current trend. Its design wraps around the passengers, and the physical buttons on the center fascia are removed and replaced with a 15.6-inch display. The instrument panel is 10.25 inches, and an additional 10.25-inch display is installed on the passenger seat. The steering wheel is designed in a style similar to a hexagon.
Electric and Hybrid Models with Exceptional Range
The electric vehicle model released in 2022 generates 261 horsepower and 28.5 kg.m of torque at the front wheel. 308 horsepower and 37.7 kg.m at the rear wheel, and a combined 578 horsepower and 66.3 kg.m. Regarding the battery, a 90.38 kWh capacity is installed as standard, and the long-range model has a battery with a capacity of 116.79 kWh. The basic model has a driving range of 555 km (345 miles), and the long-range model can drive 680 km (423 miles). It supports 240 kW ultra-fast charging, allowing up to 80% charging in just 15 minutes.
The recently added plug-in hybrid has a 1.5-liter gasoline turbo engine that produces 156 horsepower, and the electric motor produces 314 horsepower. It is not a plug-in hybrid that we are familiar with, but an EREV, where the engine is not involved in driving but only in charge of power generation, and driving is done purely by the electric motor. The battery capacity is also high at 39.05 kWh so that it can travel 225 km (140 miles) in battery mode, and in hybrid mode, it can travel up to 1,065 km (662 miles).
