Starting in January 2025, BMW will integrate HVO 100, hydrogenated vegetable oil, into all new diesel models produced in Germany. Neste in Finland will supply the sustainable fuel, which will be utilized at BMW’s manufacturing plants in Munich, Dingolfing, Regensburg, and Leipzig. HVO 100 reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90%, marking a significant step in BMW’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
HVO 100 is made from waste cooking oil and other renewable raw materials, offering a low environmental impact. BMW plans to initially fill existing diesel models with 5 to 8 liters of HVO 100 before they are delivered to dealerships. The fuel is also noted for its excellent cold-start performance in low temperatures, making it a practical alternative to traditional diesel.
BMW’s existing vehicles focus on improving CO2 emissions
BMW emphasizes the importance of reducing CO2 emissions for climate protection. Chairman Oliver Zipse said that the 250 million vehicles in Europe could reduce CO2 emissions even more effectively by increasing the share of renewable fuels. BMW is confident that HVO 100 will have significantly lower CO2 emissions than conventional diesel fuel.
This fuel policy will start in 2025 and be adopted throughout Europe. It is part of BMW’s sustainable technological innovation and its goal to contribute to the production of environmentally friendly cars worldwide.
HVO 100: A Superior Diesel Alternative
HVO 100 is an advanced diesel alternative fuel made from waste cooking oil, residues, and other renewable raw materials. In addition to environmental protection, this fuel also features excellent low-temperature starting performance, differentiating it from existing diesel vehicles that have difficulty starting in winter. It is also sold at gas stations throughout Germany, and BMW has been using this fuel in logistics trucks since 2023, and based on this, it has applied it to diesel models.
By using HVO 100 fuel, BMW can reduce the environmental impact of diesel vehicles and operate them more environmentally friendly. This is an important step forward in BMW’s technological innovation for a sustainable future and supports the company’s goals and strategies.
