The military commentator said, “The demilitarized buffer zone that has been maintained for the past five years has completely disappeared, and the extreme situation of unpredictable war outbreak is widespread.”
The commentator further claimed that South Korea carried out thousands of loudspeaker broadcasts provocations and intrusions of military vessels and reconnaissance aircraft into territorial waters and airspace in the frontline area until October this year, saying, “There is ample evidence to prove the fact that the enemies have violently violated the North-South Military Agreement.”
Referring to South Korea’s first military reconnaissance satellite launch the day before, the commentator argued, “If our satellite launch is a violation of the North-South Military Agreement (omitted)… how about the military reconnaissance satellite launch that was postponed to November 30th to December 2nd, but was finally executed in anticipation of the U.S. arbitration? No shameless person can insist that this is compliance with the agreement.”
The commentator defined the suspension of the military agreement as a serious military hostile act equivalent to war provocation, saying that it was for the South Korean military to intensify psychological warfare against the North, such as directly scattering anti-North leaflets, “The drone deployment and leaflet scattering that the enemies are attempting in our region are serious military hostile acts equivalent to war provocations.”
North Korea warned that South Korea’s hostile act will lead to ‘complete extinction.’
The commentator warned, “Any hostile act against us by the puppet traitor party will lead to the miserable extinction of the puppet army and the complete extinction of the Republic of Korea,” and “Those who have completely scrapped the North-South Military Agreement must pay a severe price.”
In response to North Korea’s military reconnaissance satellite launch (November 21st), the government suspended the effect of Article 1, Clause 3 of the 9·19 Agreement, which restricts our military’s surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities, on November 22nd.
In response, North Korea issued a statement the next day saying, “We will not be bound by the 9·19 Military Agreement” and “We will immediately restore all military measures that had been suspended under the agreement.” It declared a complete scrapping of the 9·19 Agreement.
North Korea began deploying troops to 11 GP locations from the 24th of the same month. It also began installing temporary posts and bringing in heavy weapons. The opening of the gates of the West Sea coastal artillery has also increased significantly.
