Reports have surfaced that if former US President Donald Trump succeeds in his re-election bid next year, he will consider freezing North Korea’s nuclear program and easing sanctions against the country. Trump immediately drew a line, calling it fake news.

On the 13th (local time), the political specialist media Politico quoted sources saying, “One of the ideas Trump is considering is to induce North Korea to freeze its nuclear program and stop developing new weapons, in exchange for easing economic sanctions against North Korea.”

The source added, “Trump is very eager to reach an agreement with North Korea.”

During his presidency, Donald Trump initially pursued a tough stance on North Korea, setting the goal of “complete, verifiable, and irreversible denuclearization.” However, in 2019, he attempted reconciliation by holding a summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in Hanoi, Vietnam. The Hanoi summit ultimately ended in failure, and since then, North Korea has not engaged in dialogue with the United States. Politico notes that Trump’s new plan represents a significant departure from his previous approach, indicating a shift towards accommodating Chairman Kim.

Former President Trump immediately pushed back. On the social media platform Truth Social, he stated, “This is fake news spread by Democratic operatives to cause chaos. The only accurate thing in that report is that I get along well with Kim Jong-un.”
