The U.S. State Department criticized North Korea’s ballistic missile launches over the two days on the 17th and 18th, stating that they ‘pose a threat to neighboring countries and undermine regional security.’
Matthew Miller, spokesperson for the State Department, stated on the 18th (local time) during a briefing that North Korea’s ballistic missile launches are a violation of multiple United Nations Security Council resolutions and are strongly condemned.
Spokesperson Miller stated, ‘We call on all countries to condemn such violations and fully implement the UN Security Council resolutions that are in place to block North Korea’s illicit weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and ballistic missile programs.
Price also commented on the meeting between Wang Yi, a member of the Central Politburo of the Communist Party of China and Minister of Foreign Affairs, and North Korean Deputy Foreign Minister Pak Myong Han, who is visiting China, on the 18th, immediately after North Korea’s missile launch. He said, “We believe China has a constructive role in controlling North Korea’s nuclear ambitions,” and emphasized, “We welcome and urge (China) to play such a role.”
