The United States and the Group of Seven (G7) major countries unanimously condemned North Korea’s ICBM launch on the 19th (local time).

According to Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, G7 foreign ministers in a statement today condemned North Korea’s ICBM launch in the ‘strongest terms’ and called for the abolition of the nuclear and missile program, as reported by Japan’s NHK broadcasting and others.

The G7 foreign ministers have urged North Korea to dismantle its illegal nuclear and ballistic missile capabilities, stating that North Korea is enhancing these capabilities and escalating destabilizing activities. They called for the complete, verifiable, and irreversible dismantlement (CVID) of North Korea’s nuclear weapons, weapons of mass destruction (WMD), and ballistic missiles.

Additionally, they expressed deep concerns about the possibility of North Korea transferring its nuclear weapons and missiles to other regions. The ministers emphasized the need for a swift and robust response from the international community, including the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), to address North Korea’s continued reckless behavior.

The G7 foreign ministers have urged North Korea to immediately cease weapons transfers to Russia, stating that such actions threaten global peace and stability beyond the region and seriously undermine the non-proliferation regime contributing to security. They emphasized that North Korea providing weapons to Russia constitutes a violation of United Nations Security Council resolutions. The ministers called for both countries to halt weapons deals immediately.

Additionally, they stated that North Korea should accept dialogue without preconditions proposed by South Korea, the United States, and Japan. They expressed their commitment to collaborate with partner countries for the peace of the Korean Peninsula.

Matthew Miller, the spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State, addressed North Korea’s warning message sent to the United States after its ICBM launch on the 18th, stating that the U.S. does not respond individually to provocative actions. He emphasized the U.S.’ dedication to a diplomatic approach towards North Korea and urged them to engage in dialogue.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, after observing the launch exercise of the Hwasong-18 ICBM, reportedly stated that it was a clear demonstration of their readiness and determination to swiftly respond with decisive actions if the U.S. government in Washington makes a wrong decision regarding North Korea.
