The Palestinian armed faction Hamas has launched missile attacks on Israel since the New Year.
According to foreign media such as Times of Israel (TOI) on the 1st (local time), Hamas launched more than 20 rocket attacks towards central and southern Israel around midnight transitioning from the 31st to the 1st. Israel intercepted most of these attacks with the Iron Dome. According to local authorities, no injuries were reported from this rocket launch.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) also mentioned that they shot down a suspicious aircraft heading towards their territory from the east on the same day. The aircraft is suspected to be a drone.
Meanwhile, Israel has been carrying out a mop-up operation in the Gaza Strip since the surprise attack of Hamas’s ‘Al-Aqsa Flood’ on October 7 last year. The official X (former Twitter) account of the Israeli state mentioned, “2023 was the most challenging year we have experienced.”
