The war between Ukraine and Russia has been intensifying since the New Year.

According to The Guardian on the 2nd (local time), Russia launched a massive missile and drone attack on Ukraine’s capital Kyiv, and the eastern city of Kharkiv.

This attack resulted in five deaths and over a hundred injuries. Fires broke out in various parts of Kyiv causing power outages in some areas. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated, “Russia will be held accountable for all the lives lost.”

Valeriy Zaluzhny, commander of the Ukrainian army explained about the attack “The Russian army attacked with 99 missiles including 35 drones and cruise missiles. Out of these, we intercepted 72 drones and missiles.”

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that the target of this attack was a military factory. However, President Zelensky criticized, “Most of the attacks were aimed at civilian facilities.”

The war in Ukraine has escalated in a retaliatory manner after Russia launched the largest airstrike since the war across Ukraine on the 29th of last month, resulting in over 40 deaths. Ukraine also bombed the western Russian region of Belgorod on the 30th of last month and today. The Belgorod authorities announced that one person died and five were injured in today’s attack.
