In Argentina South America, a Korean man was arrested by the police on charges of running illegal karaoke bars and allegedly facilitating and forcing prostitution on women.
On the 3rd (local time), according to the Argentine Federal Police, a Korean man and six others were arrested on charges of operating two ‘Korean-style karaoke bars’ in the Bajo Flores area of downtown Buenos Aires and allegedly facilitating illegal prostitution.
The police secured the identities of the suspects and various pieces of evidence through recent search and seizure operations and the execution of arrest warrants at seven locations in downtown Buenos Aires.
The arrest operation involved a large police force including unmanned aerial vehicles (drones).
The police also stated, “We rescued 30 multinational women who were at the karaoke bars,” adding, “One minor was included, and related measures including protection for crime victims have been carried out.”
Local media Perfil reported that the women’s nationalities varied from Argentina, Brazil, and Venezuela, among others.
After listening to the victim’s statements, the police added that the suspects also face charges of human trafficking and sexual exploitation.
The Argentine Federal Police posted photos of the suspects’ arrests on social media, stating that they had completely dismantled a ‘Korean organization’ suspected of human trafficking through sexual exploitation. The establishments in question were immediately closed.
The Bajo Flores area is one of the initial settlements of Koreans who migrated to this country, and a Korean community is still formed there.
