Emphasizes that he prevented a nuclear war through North American summit diplomacy during his tenure
Former US President Donald Trump claimed that the United States was “safer” during his tenure, recalling his relationship with Kim Jong-un, Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of North Korea.
According to The News International on the 14th (local time), former President Trump said at a campaign site in Indianola, Iowa, “Kim Jong-un is very smart and very tough,” “He liked me, and I got along well with him, and we were safe.”
He said, “We were going to go to war with them (North Korea),” and “They probably have more nuclear weapons stockpiled than anyone else. So we did a great job.”
Former President Trump met with Chairman Kim three times during his tenure from 2017 to 2021. He has repeatedly claimed that he was able to prevent a nuclear war with North Korea thanks to North-American summit diplomacy.
These remarks by former President Trump came on the day North Korea launched its first medium-range ballistic missile (IRBM) of the new year. North Korea test-fired a hypersonic IRBM using a new solid fuel propellant into the East Sea that afternoon.
