ICJ Proceeds with ‘Massacre’ Trial against Israel due to South Africa’s Lawsuit
About 24,000 deaths in Palestine since the outbreak of war
As the war between Israel and the Palestinian armed group Hamas reaches its 100th day, Israel has maintained its position to continue its offensive against the Gaza Strip to destroy Hamas.
According to Reuters on the 13th (local time), Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, “Israel will continue the war with Hamas until it wins,” and “It will not be interrupted by anyone, including the International Court of Justice.” He also mentioned Hamas, the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah supported by Iran, and the Houthi rebels in Yemen, emphasizing, “Neither Hague, the axis of evil, nor anyone can stop us.”
Prime Minister Netanyahu also hinted that he would not succumb to criticism that Israel’s airstrikes on the Gaza Strip amount to mass slaughter. On December 29 last year, South Africa sued Israel for genocide at the International Court of Justice (ICJ). The ICJ began hearings on the charge on the 11th of this month.
According to the Gaza Health Ministry, which is governed by Hamas, 23,843 people have died in Palestine alone since the war broke out due to Hamas’ airstrikes on Israel on October 7 last year. The majority of the deceased are known to be women and children.
As the war continues, Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), said, “100 days of death and destruction are tainting the humanity we share. Doctors at the Nasser Hospital in the southern Gaza Strip are struggling within a collapsed medical system,” and called for an end to the war.
