Apple, whose sales in China are plummeting, is going to discount prices from the beginning of the year.

Apple China announced on the 15th through its official website that it will start a limited-time promotion for the New Year. From the 18th to the 21st, discounts of up to 800 yuan (about 146,700 won) will be offered per item.

If you purchase the iPhone 15 series (15·15 Plus·15 Pro·15 Pro Max), 14·14 Plus, 13, up to 500 yuan will be deducted. In the case of MacBook, you can get a discount of up to 800 yuan for the 13-inch or 15-inch MacBook Air (M2), and 13-inch MacBook Air (M1). If you purchase an iPad Pro, Air, and iPad (10th generation), Mini, you can save up to 400 yuan. In addition, Apple Watch SE (200 yuan), AirPods 2·3 (100 yuan), and Apple Pencil (50 yuan) are also discounted items.

The Chinese market, which accounts for about 20% of Apple’s sales, is important, but sales have been declining since last year. The decisive factor was the Chinese authorities’ ban on the use of Apple products by public officials and state-owned enterprises, and the intensified tendency of Guo Chao (patriotic consumption) in China. The iPhone 15 series, which was released around the same time as the Huawei Mate 60, which was explosively popular last year, is not selling well compared to its predecessor. As the situation worsened, Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, visited China in person and emphasized that “China is a very important market for us,” and showed his closeness to the Chinese people.

Despite this, Apple’s sales in China have fallen by about 30% in the first week of the New Year. As global investment banks downgrade Apple’s investment rating and its stock price plunges, it appears that Apple is reducing the price of its products in China. Since the second half of last year, China’s economy has been in a slump and consumption has shrunk, so Apple’s worries are expected to deepen.
