In light of North Korean Foreign Minister Choi Sun-hee’s official visit to Russia, the Kremlin has expressed its intention to develop a comprehensive cooperative relationship with North Korea.
According to Yonhap News, Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Kremlin, stated in a briefing on the 15th (local time) that “North Korea is our neighbor, our closest neighbor, and a partner we want to further develop partnerships in all areas.” Peskov added, “Dialogue with North Korea will continue at all levels.”
The North Korean delegation led by Foreign Minister Choi is officially visiting Russia from today until the 17th, for three days, at the invitation of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The meeting between Foreign Minister Choi and Minister Lavrov is scheduled for the 16th of this month.
There’s also a possibility of a meeting with President Vladimir Putin. Spokesman Peskov did not rule out a meeting between President Putin and Foreign Minister Choi, saying, “We hope that President Putin’s visit to North Korea will take place soon, and the specific schedule will be agreed upon through diplomatic channels.”
