Former U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton predicted that if Donald Trump is re-elected, he might attempt reckless negotiations concerning North Korea’s nuclear program early in his term, potentially isolating South Korea.
Bolton warned that Trump’s re-election could endanger Ukraine and Taiwan and lead to bad negotiations with Iran.
Bolton also claimed that Trump could trigger a constitutional crisis by withdrawing the United States from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and abusing power to retaliate against political rivals.
◇ Former U.S. National Security Advisor Bolton: “If Trump is re-elected, he may restore a happy relationship with Kim Jong Un… and attempt reckless negotiations on North Korea’s nuclear program early in his term”
Bolton presented this nightmare scenario in the preface of the paperback edition of his memoir, The Room Where It Happened, which was released on the 30th (local time), according to the political media Axios.
In the 18-page preface, Bolton said, “Imagine the joy when Trump, who said ‘we fell in love,’ resumes contact with Kim Jong Un,” and “Trump tried to concede too much to the North Korean regime in the past (during his first administration), and he could try it again early in his second term.”
He continued, “Reckless negotiations on North Korea’s nuclear weapons program could further isolate Japan and South Korea, and expand China’s influence,” and “Russia’s new role in the China-Russia axis, such as providing ammunition and weapons for Russia to attack Ukraine, will not prevent Trump from reuniting with Kim Jong Un.”

Bolton, who served as the National Security Advisor during the Trump administration, has criticized Trump’s North Korean summit diplomacy for merely giving Kim Jong Un’s North Korea time to complete its ballistic missile and nuclear weapons program without making a strategic decision to abandon nuclear weapons after resigning due to discord with then-President Trump.
Bolton reportedly played a decisive role in the collapse of the second US-North Korea summit held in Hanoi, Vietnam, on February 27-28, 2019. He said that Trump counter-proposed to include long-range missiles capable of striking the U.S. mainland when Kim Jong Un proposed the dismantling of the Yongbyon nuclear facility in return for lifting sanctions against North Korea. Still, the summit collapsed when Kim Jong Un rejected it.

◇ Bolton: “Trump could accept China’s absorption unification of Taiwan, terrifying India-Pacific allies.” “Trump will put Ukraine in trouble for Putin.”
Bolton expressed concern in the preface that Trump’s re-election could jeopardize Taiwan’s independence and encourage China.
He warned, “Taiwan and the surrounding India-Pacific region will face real danger during Trump’s second term.” He emphasized that “Trump still does not recognize the importance of Taiwan, just as he previously ignored China trampling on Hong Kong’s autonomy” and “(if Trump is re-elected) the short-term risk of China creating a crisis against Taiwan will rapidly increase.”
Bolton pointed out that “Trump could believe that the U.S. could accept China’s absorption of Taiwan according to the ‘One China’ policy, which would terrify US India-Pacific allies.”
He expressed concern that “the fall of Taiwan would encourage China to finalize its combined claim on almost all of the South China Sea,” and “trade with Japan and South Korea, especially Middle East oil through the South China Sea, will be under Chinese control.”
In addition, Axios reported that Bolton predicted that if former President Trump wins the election on November 5, he will put Ukraine in trouble to provide convenience for Russian President Vladimir Putin. Pro-Trump US Republican House members are delaying the processing of the Biden administration’s 2024 fiscal year budget by opposing additional military and economic support for Ukraine.
