Patryk Vega said, “Our film is an unprecedented biography covering 60 years of Putin’s life. The film begins from when Putin is 10 and continues through his political career. It shows the most tragic events in Ukraine, such as the armed conflict in Chechnya, the Dubrovka Theater, the Beslan terrorist attack, and Bucha, Irpin, Mariupol.”
The filmmakers used deep fake technology, which uses artificial intelligence algorithms to superimpose a person’s image onto an actor’s face. The Polish director said, “The challenge was that we couldn’t bring Putin into our studio and train the AI to perfectly mimic him. The materials from the Kremlin were not sufficient to mimic a movie-level character with a high enough resolution. Fortunately, we succeeded after eight months of attempts.”
He emphasizes that his film “Putin” will provide Western audiences with a key to understanding modern Russia. Patryk Vega explained, “My ambition was to translate Eastern culture into Western language in a way that the rest of the world can understand.”
The film is currently being screened privately by industry representatives. The teaser was unveiled at the American Film Market in Santa Monica, a major international film industry event, and attracted significant interest from foreign distributors. “The Hollywood Reporter” wrote that this film is one of the most noteworthy upcoming premieres.
One scene from the film recently screened in Ukraine has sparked intense reactions from audiences. The Polish director added, “The largest distributor in Ukraine decided to distribute this film not only in Ukraine but also in countries with a large number of Ukrainian immigrants.”
