A heart-wrenching story has emerged about a father who held a “fake funeral” to get his son to visit him after not seeing him for five years following his marriage.
The story of a Chinese man named Chai was recently shared on the Chinese website Sohu.
After his wife passed away, Chai found joy in his son’s marriage and new family. However, the happiness was short-lived as his son moved to the city for work, leaving Chai lonely.
Initially, his son and daughter-in-law visited Chai often. However, about five years ago, his son stopped visiting, only leaving short messages such as “Dad, I’m busy. I’ll come when I have time.”
His son didn’t visit but continued to send money for living expenses. Overwhelmed by his longing for his son and daughter-in-law, Chai devised a plan to bring his son home.
Chai planned a “fake funeral,” hoping that his son would regret not visiting him.
He asked his neighbors to tell his son and daughter-in-law that he had passed away and that they should come home quickly.
Upon receiving the news of her father-in-law’s death, the daughter-in-law was in deep shock and promised to come as soon as possible.
The following day, the daughter-in-law and her son attended Chai’s funeral, but Chai’s son was not with them.
At Chai’s fake funeral, the daughter-in-law tearfully apologized for not taking good care of their son, saying, “Now, father and son can meet each other.”
Hiding in the back, Chai, shocked by her words, said, “I just wanted my son to come back to me.”
His son died in a traffic accident five years ago.
In the hospital, as his condition worsened, he became concerned about his father. He asked his wife to record his voice for him to keep.
Tragically, the son passed away. Afterward, whenever her father-in-law called, the daughter-in-law would play the recorded voice of her late husband.
