A Pregnant Woman in a Vegetative State
Suddenly Regains Consciousness
At the Sound of Her Baby’s Cry
A woman in a vegetative state for six months reportedly regained consciousness during childbirth after hearing her baby cry.
Sanook introduced a true story from China on April 15.
Married in 2000, Mrs. Wang (alias) and her husband longed for a child for eight years. Their dream finally came true, but three months into the pregnancy, Mrs. Wang’s world turned upside down when she began experiencing dizziness, nausea, and vomiting.
Mrs. Wang, who thought these were just signs of pregnancy and didn’t pay much attention, eventually lost consciousness as her symptoms worsened.
Horrified, Mrs. Wang’s husband rushed her to the emergency room after finding her unconscious. A devastating diagnosis followed – a stroke. Despite emergency surgery, Mrs. Wang slipped into a vegetative state.
Faced with an agonizing decision, the doctor explained the critical situation and the limited options for saving both Mrs. Wang and the baby. The husband, under immense pressure, opted for an abortion.
In a heart-wrenching twist, Mrs. Wang shed tears as if defying the impossible situation. This unexpected reaction spurred her husband to plead with the doctors to try everything possible to save both his wife and their unborn child. From that moment, he became their unwavering caregiver, devoting himself to their well-being daily.
After a long and agonizing ordeal, Mrs. Wang delivered a healthy baby boy via cesarean section at 36 weeks. Relief washed over everyone in the room, yet Mrs. Wang’s reaction left them filled with a new wave of unexpected emotions.
Hearing the baby’s cry, Mrs. Wang slowly opened her eyes, and within a day, her body began to produce milk for the baby. Mrs. Wang gradually improved to the point where she could move.
The doctor said, “Every mother has a switch in her heart to protect her child. This switch will be activated at a critical moment.”
Mrs. Wang said, “When I lost consciousness, it felt like I heard the sound of a child calling me. So I opened my eyes with all my might.”
