Actor Lee Do Hyun is receiving intense global attention thanks to the domestic and international success of the blockbuster film Exhuma, released in February,
His personal social media followers have surpassed 10 million, with enthusiastic responses continuing domestically and overseas. In Exhuma, Lee garnered critical acclaim for his total immersion into the character of “Gen-Z Shaman” Yoon Bong Gil with long hair, tattoos, headsets, and his inspired acting. By portraying a harsh character rather suavely, he marked a significant record by rising to the ranks of a “ten-million-audience” actor with his first screen debut.
Exhuma has shattered the record for the highest-grossing horror film in Korea, drawing over 11 million viewers in just 40 days since its release. The film also sets box office records in Vietnam, with the highest audience numbers for a Korean movie. It topped the box office in its opening week in Thailand, ranked second in the history of the Korean film box office in Australia, and attracted 2.3 million audiences in Indonesia.
Lee, who had already built a global fan base with his previous works such as 18 Again, Sweet Home, and The Glory, is receiving an even more vibrant response with the worldwide success of Exhuma.
Considering that Exhuma was invited to the Beijing International Film Festival and sold rights to 133 countries, global interest in Lee is expected to continue.
Currently serving in the military, Lee has been nominated for the Best New Actor award in the film category at the 60th Baeksang Arts Awards, which will be held on May 7. It remains to be seen whether Lee, who led the Exhuma syndrome, will be able to win the honor of the award.
