At 60 years old, an Argentine woman recently won the title of Miss Buenos Aires.
According to Argentine media outlet El Trece, on May 24th, Alejandra Marisa Rodriguez, a 60-year-old lawyer and journalist from Buenos Aires, was chosen as Miss Buenos Aires, earning her the right to compete in the national Miss Argentina pageant.
Beating out dozens of younger competitors, her recent title earned her the right to compete next month in the Miss Argentina selection contest, going against competitors who won from other regions. Winning Miss Argentina will result in the ability to participate in Miss Universe.
“It’s an honor to win the Miss Buenos Aires title in 2024,” Alejandra said. “I wanted to show all women that there’s no age limit to beauty, that barriers can be broken down, and that there’s no limit to women’s empowerment,” she added, expressing her joy at winning the title.
She also vowed to fight hard to win the crown of Miss Universe Argentina 2024, saying, “There’s no expiration date for beauty. To be beautiful, be authentic, and believe in yourself.”
She revealed her secret to maintaining a youthful appearance, saying that it involved working out three times a week, practicing intermittent fasting, maintaining a healthy diet, and taking care of her skin.
Many viewers online were shocked to learn about Alejandra’s win as someone over 40 and were excited to hear that she has a chance of winning Miss Argentina in the next round.
The Miss Universe beauty pageant has removed the age limit of 18 to 28 that had been in place since 1958. The current rules only mention that participants must be of legal age, allowing more women, including Alejandra, to participate.
